Creating a Brand the Community Can Stand Behind
Hammond Sanitary District
Services: Branding, Creative Design
Challenges
The Hammond Sanitary District’s existing identity lacked meaning and recognition. It did not clearly connect to the region, the organization’s mission, or the critical environmental work they perform every day. Externally, it did little to help the public understand who they were or why their role matters.
Leadership recognized the need for a brand that better reflected their responsibility to the community and the environment.
The challenge was to develop a new identity that was both symbolic and practical, capable of working across official documents, field operations, and public-facing materials.
Goals
The rebrand effort focused on meaning, pride, and clarity, not just aesthetics.
Key goals included:
-
Create a brand identity that represents the region and mission
-
Reflect the organization’s role in environmental safety
-
Build a visual system employees could feel proud to represent
-
Increase public-facing credibility and recognition
-
Ensure the identity worked across vehicles, uniforms, documents, and signage
Our Approach
We led the project through a collaborative brand development process with the senior leadership team, ensuring the final identity reflected both operational reality and long-term vision. Rather than designing in isolation, we worked closely with decision makers to understand the organization’s responsibilities, community impact, and internal culture.
The identity system was built around symbolism, regional relevance, and functional durability. Every design decision considered real-world application, from letterhead and forms to fleet vehicles and field visibility.
